“Matheson Ormsby Prentice sets the standard for service, substance and responsiveness”.
Client Choice Award, International Law Office 2010
We have worked successfully for many years with a broad range of financial institutions throughout the world and the financial services sector is the largest single sector of our practice. We have market leading teams in asset management and investment funds, asset finance, banking, financial services litigation, financial services regulation and compliance, insurance, restructuring and insolvency, structured finance and derivatives and tax.
Matheson Ormsby Prentice is continually looking at ways in which we can develop and enhance the services we provide to our clients in the financial services sector. To that end we established our Financial Institutions Group.
The Financial Institutions Group comprises lawyers specialising in:
Corporate – Tim Scanlon is a highly experienced lawyer who has advised on many of the largest transactions which have taken place in Ireland. In particular, he has advised on public takeovers, private acquisitions and disposals and the restructuring and reorganisation of Irish and international corporations, including the re-domiciliation of a number of large US institutions to Ireland.
Insurance – Darren Maher’s practice concentrates on providing legal and regulatory advice to life and non-life insurance companies, reinsurance companies, captive insurance companies and insurance intermediaries. Darren has advised a wide range of leading domestic and international clients on all aspects of insurance law and regulation including establishment and authorisation in Ireland, the development and distribution of insurance products, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and consolidation and restructuring of insurance operations including portfolio transfers and mergers and acquisitions.
Financial Regulation – Joe Beashel can draw on extensive industry experience in supporting clients in all activities associated with MiFID and other financial regulation including major product rationalisation, system conversion and integration following company mergers, product development, compliance issues, regulatory inspections and risk management system development. Joe also assists clients with the authorisation of new entities and the expansion of clients’ existing regulated activities.
The Group brings together highly experienced individuals in these three areas all of whom are focused exclusively on advising national and international financial institutions. They advise on day to day operational matters as well as on matters of fundamental strategic importance to our clients. Members of the group have worked at very senior levels in financial institutions and the knowledge and commercial awareness gained through that experience enables Matheson Ormsby Prentice to add real commercial value in the service it provides.
Financial institutions will benefit from:
- lawyers with genuine sector experience who provide legal advice with business acumen
- the capabilities of an experienced multi-disciplinary team focused solely on financial institutions as their clients
- lawyers who work together to support the strategic objectives of their clients
- a team that, in the constantly evolving regulatory environment, will understand how the law presents business opportunities and risks and will support their clients in achieving commercial advantages
Ireland has succeeded in attracting some of the world’s largest multinational organisations operating in the financial services sector. We are very pleased to be acting for many of them in achieving their strategic objectives throughout Europe and North America.
