Expertise
Valerie is an associate in the Intellectual Property Group within the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department and has worked with the firm for eleven years. She is also a member of the Retail and Leisure Group, a specialist cross-departmental group, which provides an integrated service for clients in the retail and leisure industry. On the contentious side, Valerie has acted for clients in prosecuting and defending intellectual property infringement cases, misleading and comparative advertising proceedings and in defending consumer law prosecutions. Valerie acts for a number of domestic and international retail clients as well as FMCG companies advising on issues relating to intellectual property, advertising, marketing and promotions. Valerie also has considerable expertise in gaming and lotteries law, advising clients in relation to online and SMS gaming, lotteries and related activities.
Valerie is a member of the Copyright Association of Ireland (CAI), the International Association for Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) and the International Association of Gaming Advisers (IAGA).

Valerie has been involved in:
- acting for an international FMCG company in trade mark infringement and revocation proceedings
- advising the Irish Music Rights Organisation in relation to copyright licensing issues and acting in a number of copyright infringement actions
- obtaining an interim injunction to restrain passing off and trade mark infringement
- advising on and drafting intellectual property licensing agreements
- advising clients in relation to brand protection, trade mark, passing off and anti-counterfeiting issues
- represented clients in proceedings with a competitor arising under the Misleading Advertising Regulations
- reviewing materials for advertising and promotional campaigns
- advising on the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 2007 and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive
