Expertise
Turlough Galvin is the Head of our Tax practice and our Structured Finance and Derivatives Group. He advises international corporations, investment banks and financial institutions doing business in and through Ireland. He practices corporate tax specialising in tax structuring, all forms of structured finance, securitisation, derivatives, mergers and acquisitions and stamp duty. He also provides transfer pricing advice to the financial services industry and is often involved in resolving tax disputes and in tax litigation matters.
Turlough was involved in redrafting the Irish securitisation legislation in 2002/2003, the Irish VAT legislation relating to structured finance transactions in 2004 and various changes to Irish tax legislation nearly every year since then.
Turlough is recommended as a leading lawyer in most relevant legal publications and has, in the past, been included in Tax Business magazine's 'Top 50', a highly regarded survey of the 50 most influential individuals in global tax.
Turlough was educated at law school in Trinity College Dublin and graduated in 1992 with a First Class honours LLB degree. Turlough qualified as a solicitor in Ireland in 1995 and as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1996. Prior to joining Matheson Ormsby Prentice in Dublin in 2000, Turlough worked for Deutsche Bank and Slaughter and May in London. Turlough is a regular speaker and writer on international tax and structured finance issues.
Turlough is a director of The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. The ISPCC is Ireland's oldest and most well-known children's charity and its vision is to see an Ireland where all children are heard and valued - www.ispcc.ie . Turlough is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Talented Youth, Ireland.
