Expertise
Rod is a partner in the Corporate Restructuring and Insolvency Law Group at Matheson Ormsby Prentice. He advises on all aspects of corporate restructuring and insolvency. Rod represents numerous financial institutions, public and private companies and insolvency office-holders.
For the past 20 years, Rod has consistently been ranked by international legal directories as one of Ireland's leading lawyers in restructuring and insolvency.
Rod is a frequent lecturer on corporate restructuring and insolvency law matters. He has written widely on the subject, including in "Tolleys Insolvency Law and Practice" and other specialist insolvency and restructuring law journals. Rod was the author of the Irish chapter for the European Restructuring and Insolvency Guide 2002/2003 in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Rod was elected to the council of the Irish Insolvency Group by insolvency practitioners in Ireland (made up of accountants and lawyers) for the years 2005 to 2010. He is an active member of INSOL and R3. Rod is a regular lecturer at CLE lectures in the Law Society of Ireland and in UCD and he has recently been co-opted to the Law Society Business Committee. Rod is currently a member of the Council of the UCD Law School.

Highlights
Rod's representative cases include:
- acting for companies and examiners in a number of domestic restructuring matters including in particular ISTC, Cappoquin Chickens and John J Fleming examinerships plus numerous receiverships and liquidations to include acting for the receivers in the Tribune Newspapers plc and Aifca Limited receiverships
- cross-border insolvencies and restructurings including those relating to Worldcom, Aerospace Industries International, KPNQwest, Laidlaw Inc., Saturn Fulfilment and Unidare Plc
- various bankruptcies on behalf of the Revenue and on behalf of Lloyds of London Insurance Company
- acting for a number of financial institutions including Danske, Lloyds, HBOS, Rabobank, AIB and Bank of Ireland in the appointment of Receivers to various companies
- acting for various Directors of numerous companies in successfully defending restriction/disqualification proceedings brought by the Liquidator against them
