Expertise
Michael is a consultant in the firm's Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. His Expertise include national and international contract disputes; intellectual property and media, professional negligence and product liability law.
Michael acts for a wide range of Irish and international clients in all aspects of commercial litigation and intellectual property and has been involved in a number of landmark actions including de Rossa .V. Independent Newspapers, Magill .V. RTE, BBC and ITP and various Supreme Court cases for News International Plc. Michael has also acted in numerous product liability cases including class actions relating to the pharmaceutical, chemical and tobacco industries.
As well as being a member of the Law Society of Ireland and the International Bar Association, Michael is a member of the Irish Society of European Law; the International Association for Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI); the Intellectual Property subcommittee of the International Bar Association, the Media Society and the Copyright Association of Ireland. He was a member of the Litigation Committee of the Law Society of Ireland for 12 years and is a member of the International Litigation Committee of the IBA and on the Law Society panel of Arbitrators. Michael is also a Panel Lawyer to the Solicitors Mutual Defence Fund and a CEDR Accredited Mediator.
Michael has lectured extensively and is a frequent speaker on litigation issues. He is a standing lecturer to The Law Society of Ireland. In addition he has contributed to a number of publications including Trade Mark Year Book, the European Corporate Lawyer, Global Counsel, Press Gazette, ICC Year Book, International Civil Procedures together with other articles relating to product liability, practice and procedure in the Superior Courts and other areas.
Michael is recognised as Ireland's leading commercial litigation lawyer, according to results released in April 2006 by legal directory, 'International Who's Who of Commercial Litigation'.
