Expertise
Julie is a partner in the Corporate Restructuring and Insolvency Law Group at Matheson Ormsby Prentice. Before joining Matheson Ormsby Prentice in 1996, Julie completed a stage in the Counsel of the European Union in Brussels where she worked on the then evolving Cross-Border Insolvency Regulation. This was followed by a contract in the Asser Research Institute of International Law in the Hague, where she completed a project for the Czech Republic advising on joining the EU. Since qualifying in 1999, Julie has practiced in commercial litigation, specialising in corporate insolvency and restructuring as well as contentious banking disputes and credit and security issues, including all types of enforcement issues including security reviews, receiverships, general 'work out' situations, debt recovery, freezing orders and garnishee proceedings.
Julie has contributed to a number of domestic and international publications on both insolvency and litigation-related matters including 'Bankers Law Journal' and 'International Corporate Rescue'. She lectures on Insolvency Law and Directors Duties at the Continuing Legal Education seminars and on the professional practice courses of the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland. Julie also spoke at the Irish Taxation Institute Annual Conference in 2010. She is co-author of the Law Society's Insolvency Manual. She is an accredited mediator. Julie was elected to the council of the Irish Insolvency Group by insolvency practitioners in Ireland (made up of accountants and lawyers) in 2011, and is an active member of Insol Europe, Women in Banking and Finance in Ireland, and the Commercial Litigation Association of Ireland where she is currently involved in preparing a practitioners' guide to the Commercial Court in Ireland.

Julie has advised:
- financial institutions and insolvency practitioners in relation to receiverships including Michael Lynn Solicitor and Proper T Capel Limited, Thomas Byrne Solicitor, Sigma Telecom Limited, IPOS pharmacy group, B3 Cable Solutions (Ireland) Limited and numerous personal receiverships, and in relation to tax schemes in the hotel and nursing home industries involving the restructuring and enforcement of loans in relation to investors, promoters and operators
- financial institutions in connection with commercial court cases involving both defaulting borrowers and negligence actions/actions for breach of undertaking by solicitors
- directors and shareholders of companies on corporate governance and compliance issues and on matters relating to the Director of Corporate Enforcement, restriction proceedings, Section 205 proceedings and shareholder disputes and advising in relation to bankruptcy and voluntary schemes of arrangement
- in connection with section 201 restructurings/schemes of arrangement, including International Marketing Services Group plc, the takeover by HRE of Depfa in which we advised a hedge fund, and the merger of IAWS Group plc and Hiestand to create Aryzta
