Expertise
John is head of the firm’s US offices and practises corporate tax focusing principally on advising foreign corporations doing business in and through Ireland. His areas of expertise include advising on corporate acquisitions, mergers, reorganisations, inward investment tax incentives, workouts and cross-border restructurings. He has represented numerous US and other foreign corporations in establishing their Irish operations, and is standing counsel to a number of Irish based multinationals across a range of industry sectors. He has extensive experience in advising on transfer pricing matters and has advised on a number of Irish competent authority proceedings. John has also held a number of directorships on the boards of Irish subsidiaries of multinational groups.
John is a frequent speaker on taxation law topics such as planning for corporate acquisitions and mergers, inbound investment under Ireland’s new corporate tax regime and the taxation issues surrounding e-commerce transactions for business in and through Ireland.
John is also the Irish correspondent for the Irish Chapter of Tax Management Portfolio - Business Operations in Ireland, a US publication that has widespread circulation both within and outside the US.

- an Irish headquartered logistics company on its US$400 million acquisition of an Atlanta based logistics group and more recently on its subsequent high yield bond issue
- the Irish based operation of a leading quoted media group on its €380 million acquisition of a local competitor and on its subsequent business merger
- on a multibillion Euro merger of two quoted media groups
- an Irish based pharmaceutical company on its €3 billion sale to an international private equity consortium
- a number of foreign corporations, public and private, on their recent redomiciliation to Ireland
