Expertise
James is a consultant in the Entertainment and Media Law Group at Matheson Ormsby Prentice. He advises on all areas of entertainment and media law including film and television production, financing, film production, distribution and banking arrangements for same, talent agreements including film rights agreements, writers agreements, actors, directors, designers and composers agreements, errors and omissions insurance and music copyright clearance, as well as theatre and public performance contracts, music contracts and intellectual property.
James was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Projects Arts Centre (1982-1988) and of the National Theatre Society Limited (the Abbey Theatre)(1993-2002). He was also a member of the executive committee of Screen Producers Ireland (1992-2007). He is a member of the European Film Academy and of the Audiovisual Federation of the Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC).

'Once' starring Glen Hansard; 'Kisses' directed by Lance Daly; 'Breakfast on Pluto' directed by Neil Jordan; 'King Arthur' starring Clive Owen and Keira Knightley; 'Intermission' with Colin Farrell and Colm Meaney; 'Song for a Raggy Boy' starring Aidan Quinn; 'Dancing at Lughnasa', starring Meryl Streep and directed by Pat O'Connor; 'In the Name of the Father' directed by Jim Sheridan; 'The Dead', directed by John Huston and 'My Left Foot' directed by Jim Sheridan. In the area of television production, he has worked with the producers of international TV series such as 'The Tudors' and 'Camelot', Irish drama television series such as 'The Clinic', 'Single Handed' and 'Raw' and the Irish versions of the formats of 'The Apprentice' and 'Dragon's Den'.
He also works in the area of live theatre and advised such productions as 'Riverdance - The Show' and composers such as Ronan Hardiman. He also advises Irish copyright collection societies such as IMRO and MCPS Ireland.
