Expertise
Gearóid Carey is an Associate in the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group at Matheson Ormsby Prentice. He advises in relation to general commercial disputes, principally involving contractual issues. He has particular experience in disputes concerning breach of warranty claims and the termination of contracts. He also has experience of advising clients in relation to shareholder disputes, international litigation and arbitration, and regulatory breaches. He also has practical experience of various means of Alternative Dispute Resolution, including mediations, arbitrations and expert determinations. He also represents liquidators and receivers in proceedings.
He is admitted as a solicitor in Ireland, Northern Ireland and in England and Wales, having trained and qualified with a leading City of London law firm. Gearoid has worked as a tutor in law at University College, Cork and also tutors in litigation on the Law Society of Ireland professional practice courses. He has also worked as a Judicial assistant at the Court of Appeal, London.
He has also published numerous articles in legal journals, principally focussing on issues of substantive contract law, as well as civil practice and procedure issues, including mediation and arbitration. He is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners and Dublin Solicitors Bar Association.

- Commercial Court proceedings in relation to claims arising from delayed redelivery of an aircraft under an aircraft lease agreement
- High Court proceedings in relation to a dispute under a VAT reclaim service agreement
- High Court proceedings brought by a Bank against a cash services provider for allegedly failing to account for monies
- High Court proceedings brought against a stock-broking firm by a former employee
- Co-ordination of advice/proceedings in a number of jurisdictions in support of an Irish Receivership
- Unfair prejudice/Minority oppression proceedings brought on behalf a director and shareholder of a company
- advising in respect of applications pursuant to the Foreign Tribunals Evidence Act 1856
- High Court proceedings brought in respect of an alleged breach of an Oil Drilling Technical Services Agreement in Venezuela
- High Court proceedings brought by a customer of a stockbroking firm for alleged fraudulent trading on his account
- an ICC arbitration (and associated Court proceedings) for a jet engine manufacturer in disputes arising from the cancellation of a Regional Jet Aircraft development programme
- an LCIA arbitration arising out of alleged breach of a waste management/handling agreement under a PPP/PFI contract
- a group of investors' claim concerning investments in Russia in an LCIA arbitration under the UNCITRAL rules and post-award enforcement issues
- challenging the enforcement of a €470 million Russian arbitral award
