Our People
Talent is one of the core values at Matheson Ormsby Prentice, a place where members of our firm trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do, and enjoy the people they work with.
Some of our lawyers talk about their roles at Matheson Ormsby Prentice:
Pat English
Partner, International Business Group
As a Corporate Partner and Resident Counsel in the New York Office, I am a clear beneficiary of the dynamic nature of the firm's partnership and the international footprint we have successfully built in the US market in particular. The firm, quite rightly, places huge emphasis on our core values of service and excellence in all we do for our clients. This also translates into the opportunities which a career at Matheson Ormsby Prentice can offer to those with the motivation to succeed in the challenging environment in which we operate.
I have been very grateful for the opportunities afforded to me at the firm, from my initial trainee days right through to my current role in New York, to pursue my career as a corporate lawyer both in Dublin and in the US, in particular as part of the leading international practice in the Dublin market. As we continue to build on our experience, reputation and the Matheson Ormsby Prentice brand in the US market and further afield in working with clients looking to do business in and through Ireland, Matheson Ormsby Prentice offers a unique challenge and opportunity in that context and is an exciting place to be at the cutting edge of the Irish law firm market.
Yvonne Cunnane
Senior Associate, Technology & Commercial Contracts Law Group
A great advantage of working in the Technology and Commercial Contracts Law Group is that you advise a multitude of different industry sectors on a wide variety of commercial and technology law matters. The work tends to be both very interesting and intellectually stimulating. I have been afforded the opportunity to work in-house with three separate clients which gives one a unique opportunity to get first-hand experience of a specific industry sector as well as an invaluable insight into the work of an in-house counsel.
Since technology is such a rapidly changing area of law there is a great emphasis on sharing know-how at weekly team meetings where active participating is expected in terms of sharing experiences and know-how. The team is made up of intelligent, hard-working, high calibre lawyers and has an excellent market reputation in this field of law. That said, the team manages to be close knit, collegiate and supportive. There is always someone willing to point you in the right direction, and it is easy to chat to people and bounce your ideas off them.
To complement the legal training, lawyers at Matheson Ormsby Prentice are also encouraged to develop their wider business skills, with sessions ranging from project management and client care to innovative commercial awareness, presentation and negotiation skills training.
Marie O'Brien
Partner, Asset Finance Group
I had the opportunity to work in the New York office which was an invaluable experience that strengthened my relationships with clients (many of my clients are US based) by being able to meet them regularly and work with them in their time zone. My role involved combining business development and transaction work which was challenging but an excellent experience and developed my confidence and skills in business development. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of living in New York and the opportunities to travel around the US to meet clients and give presentations on aviation related topics.
