We understand that starting your career can seem daunting. When you commence your apprenticeship with Matheson Ormsby Prentice, you will participate in an in-depth induction programme that has been designed to put you at ease and help you to instantly become a member of the Matheson Ormsby Prentice team. During your induction programme we will share with you our values. You will learn the way we do business and how our clients form an integral part of our business strategy.
When you start your rotation, each department or group will hold a number of seminars specifically covering the key issues facing the group, typical transactions and key terminology used in the group. This is a great opportunity to meet the team and to understand fully the type of work involved. It also means that you can contribute to the work of the group from day one.
As you grow and develop as a trainee solicitor with Matheson Ormsby Prentice, your training and development grows with you. We deliver a combination of dedicated legal education programmes to assist you with your continuous professional development, a highly successful mentoring programme designed to develop your legal skills and expertise and focused client care training, in order to provide you with the information, knowledge and skills required to be a success at Matheson Ormsby Prentice.

Route map to becoming a Solicitor
Are you interested in a career in law but not sure how to go about it? The following is a step by step guide to becoming a solicitor with Matheson Ormsby Prentice.
- Complete and pass your primary degree (Minimum of a 2.1 degree is required).
- To successfully obtain an apprenticeship through one of the following:
- Summer Internship Programme
- University Placement Programme
- Trainee Recruitment Interview in January of each year.
- Pass the Final Examination - First Part, also commonly known as the FE 1’s. These comprise of eight exams, which can be completed in October or April each year. You have the choice to sit eight exams together or to do four at a time. You must pass all eight of these before you can commence your Professional Practice Course 1 (PPC 1).
- Attend PPC I in Blackhall Place, Dublin and pass the course examinations. This runs from September to April each year.
- Spend a period of 11 months as a trainee solicitor in Matheson Ormsby Prentice. During this time you will do three rotations in different departments.
- Attend PPCII in Blackhall Place, Dublin and pass the course examinations. This runs from April to June.
- Serve the remainder of the two year apprenticeship term following completion of PPCII. During this time you will do two rotations in different departments.
- After completion of the two year term of apprenticeship, you will become a qualified solicitor and admitted to the Roll of Solicitors.
